Press Release
Now: Laser instead of Knife - Femto-LASIK
Mannheim, 2/25/2005.
Femto-LASIK, a new procedure in eye laser treatment was introduced to
the public during a press conference today. The invitation by the FreeVis
LASIK Center University Clinic Mannheim drew numerous media representatives.
The introductory speech was held by Wolfgang Pföhler, Managing Director
of the University Hospital Mannheim. He pointed out the importance of
using state-of-the-art technology.
The FreeVis LASIK Center of the University Hospital Mannheim is one
of the first facilities in Germany to use the Femto-Second-Laser. Professor
Knorz, founder and Medical Director of the FreeVis LASIK Center University
Hospital Mannheim, introduced the procedure. According to Professor
Knorz, "Femto-LASIK, also called Laser-LASIK, illustrates the most innovative
and safest method in eye laser procedures such as short sightedness,
farsightedness and astigmatism". He explained the method, as well as
the possible applications of the Femto Second Laser. "The decisive advantage,
in contrast to standard technology, consists of much higher accuracy,
and therefore results in higher safety and more peace of mind for the
patient", says Professor Knorz.
This was followed by a "Live Femto-LASIK" surgery. After routine surgical
preparations, Professor Knorz performed surgery with the new Femto-LASIK
procedure on a female patient. Several minutes after the successfully
performed operation, the patient and Professor Knorz answered media
questions. Mrs. Bechle, the patient, is very active and an athlete,
so she is looking forward to the time after Femto-LASIK: "Now, I can
finally do my sports without wearing glasses. I have always wanted to
do that!"
